TERRATRIBES 2010 CHARITY REPORT

Terratribes is committed to giving back to the local communities in which we work, but also where we are from. Over the last year Terratribes has played an active role in supporting community sporting events such as the Yangshuo Climbing Festival, the Beijing Ice Climbing Festival and the Chengdu Rugby Tournament. Terratribes also donated trips towards the Habitat for Humanity fundraiser in Chengdu as well as the Jane Goodall Roots and Shoots Fundraiser. These are some of the ways that Terratribes gets involved and will continue to be a proud sponsor of local communities’ events.

Through the Terratribes Charity funds we allocated a percentage of our profits to underserved rural schools within the Yangshuo County. The Longsheng Primary School received significant support in urgently needed renovations. Terratribes worked directly with the 2 teachers of the school to organize repairs to the roof that had been damaged from heavy rain. Through two of our youth community service trips, Longcheng Primary school also received a fresh coat of paint, new chalk boards, fresh new gardens, repairs to the walls and floor as well as donated sporting equipment and school supplies. The 19 primary schools students worked alongside the international high school students who volunteered to carry out the projects. It was a meaningful and memorable experience for both the local and international students.

Terratribes is also a proud supporter of the Ark Orphanage in Sichuan Province.  We donated funds to support the orphanage’s ongoing initiatives.

About the Ark Orphanage:

After spending 55 years in Tibet, Shan Xi native, Dr. Liu decided to move back to a lower altitude in Sichuan, where he spent many of his pre-Tibet years and set up an orphanage for Tibetan children in 2003. He moved the orphanage from a poor village near Nanping to Jiuzhaigou in 2007. The orphanage looks after 44 children, 15 of which are physically disabled between 6 and 18 years old. The day-to-day needs of the orphanage are funded by Dr. Liu’s pension and those of some of his ex-school mates. Other projects such as the sustainable vegetable garden, the educational garden, the library and other projects are funded by individual donations. There are constant improvements that are required to the facilities and the orphanage is hoping to set up a small business that the children can work in and gain valuable work experience as they get older.

Terratribes will continue to sponsor and support local community events in 2011 and through the Terratribes Charity, continue to strengthen a sense of community, foster interconnectedness and promote play.
