Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA) has been setting the standard inwilderness medicine and rescue training for over twenty-five years. We are experienced medical practitioners as well as paddlers, mountain guides, outdoor educators, and professional rescuers.

Types of Courses

Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA):Wilderness Advanced First Aid is a comprehensive medical training designed for remote professionals or wilderness leaders who venture into challenging, remote environments. Wilderness medicine differs from standard first aid courses and other training that is orientated towards urban environments. Our course teaches how to manage medical emergencies when hospitals and rescue services may not be available for an extensive period. We prepare students for emergency situations for prolonged patient care, severe environments and improvised equipment.
The course is scheduled for 4 days of instructional and practice time. Certification is valid for 3 yrs.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR): The WFR is the ideal medical training for leaders in remote areas such as outdoor educators, guides, military, researchers and those involved in disaster relief. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical. It includes the essential principles and skills required to asses and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary. This is the most current and cutting edge curriculum of any first response medical training (remote or urban) in the world.
The course is scheduled for 8 days or 80 hrs instruction/practice time and certification is valid for 3 yrs.
