YCIS had its first ever outdoor adventure trip here at Terratribes’ lovely home base of Yangshuo this past October. Students had the chance to hike the lovely Longsheng Rice Terraces, where they stayed in a beautiful guest house and enjoyed a unique Yao minority dancing a culture show, complete with students dancing along with the locals. After completing the challenging hike, everyone travelled back to our base camp, where they got to camp out and learn to start fires, cook, and appreciate the great outdoors.

Rocking out in Baihe! HIS Beijing Baihe Expedition September 2012

This fall we worked with Harrow International School North of Beijing in the Baihe area.  Baihe is a wonderful area that offers a plethora of outdoor opportunities.  We had an exciting schedule with Harrow which was composed of Hiking and backpacking though the mountains in the rain where the students, teachers, and guides were humbled by the torrential downpour that followed us though the mountains.  Once we dried from the hike we spent the next few days biking through the county side, rock climbing and abseiling on the beautiful granite rock, and learning how to work together

Hiking the Great Wall and Exploring Beijing Culture-CIS Shanghai Beijing Trip, September 2012

Just before October holiday, CISS joined Terratribes in Beijing for a city/country tour. With a large group of over 100 students, we had to split the crew in two. One team started in the countryside with working on a corn farm in the surroundings of Beijing. Students learned about how farmers live and survive on their crops and helped harvest the corn. This was followed by a magnificent hike along a particularly special and unspoiled section of the Great Wall at Jinshanling.

Service and Adventure in Guangxi-Beijing/Peking University High School

We had a unique opportunity to offer Peking University their first adventure activities on a trip of all time here in Yangshuo. In between their rigorous and enlightening service activities at a local school, we did adventure activities with them such as cycling, climbing, zip lining, abseiling, and even some extra cycling! The students were eager for the activities, and we are proud of their great attitudes participating in these new activities that they will be able to do again in the future!

Giant Pandas and Snowball Fights-SAS Sichuan Adventure, May 13-18 2012

This past spring, Terratribes took SAS students to Kangding, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas a few hours from Chengdu. After picking up the students and teachers, we wound our way up through the mountains towards the fabled town of Kangding, crossing the ‘border’ into the Tibetan Autonomous region. As soon as we entered, we were in an almost entirely Tibetan population, with a very different look and feel to the culture just down the hill in Chengdu.
