History
Terratribes was founded in 2008 by two of China’s most experienced and passionate outdoor educators, Qin Qing Xiang and Sun Lingye. They have worked together since 2004, organizing and facilitating a range of adventure trips in China and internationally.
They had a dream to have a career that allowed them to share their passion for the outdoors in a meaningful and lasting way. So, our founders started with a set of values and solid, passionate guides and outdoor educators. Our very first trips were run with international schools within China and local families and travelers.
Since then, our little company has grown to include three areas of focus: international school programs, corporate teambuilding, and traveler and tour services. From our home in Yangshuo, our programs have expanded to include locations all over China, including Sichuan, Yangshuo, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Beijing, Shanghai and more.
We have also developed a not-for-profit branch, Terratribes Charity, which focuses on ongoing service and charitable projects that give back to the communities in the areas we visit.
Since our company’s birth, Terratribes’ owners have also worked hard to acquire certifications that will help raise the standards of outdoor recreation safety and quality in China. We boast China’s first trainer of wilderness medicine through Wilderness Medical Associates, along with one of China’s most accomplished mountaineering trainers and developers for China Mountain Development Institute. In 2012, Terratribes became the first Chinese organization to become a partner of the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.
